IPL Photofacial

What is an IPL Photofacial?

An IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) photofacial can be used to treat sun damage, wrinkles, stretch marks and age spots. Treatments performed at Causey Med Aesthetic in Baton Rouge, LA can be used to erase mild sun damage, brown spots, freckles or irregular pigmentation on the face, neck, or even chest.

Our Photofacial treatment uses pulses of IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) to reverse signs of aging by altering your skin at the cellular level. Photofacials are relatively painless, by creating a feeling similar to a snapping rubber band. It is also considered one of the most effective non-invasive rejuvenating treatments for aging skin. Photofacials are typically used to treat minor imperfections such as skin discoloration, sun damage, brown spots, acne scars, and even vascular lesions including rosacea!

Anyone looking to improve signs of aging. By treating a slightly deeper layer of the skin, IPL Photofacials stimulate collagen growth by simulating minor dermal injuries, thereby helping to improve skin texture. The treatment can also help repair small blood vessels that have become visible or help eradicate sun spots or other pigmentation irregularities. Photofacials have lasting effects in helping reduce the signs of aging such as fine lines, wrinkles, and sunspots.

What are Photofacials used for?

Generally speaking, photofacials are used to treat skin blemishes and pigmentation issues. However, there are several specific conditions that fall under these categories. IPL photofacial treatments can be used to treat the following:

  • Broken capillaries (blood vessels)

  • Rosacea

  • Sun damage (sun spots)

  • Hyperpigmentation

  • Spider veins

  • Freckles

  • Fine lines

How does an IPL Photofacial procedure work?

Over time, due to aging and other factors, the layers of your skin weaken and can appear thin, wrinkled, rough & blemished. Photofacials address imperfections in a safe and gentle manner, with results that improve over time as the skin thickens and becomes healthier.

IPL photofacials, also known as Pulsed Light Therapy, involve a handheld device that emits pulses of broad spectrum light through direct contact with the skin. It acts on the deeper layers of skin, making it ideal for treating broken capillaries, sun damage, and other impurities.

IPL Photofacials involve light being absorbed into the skin. The more intense nature of the IPL photofacial’s light pulses allows this light to be absorbed more deeply.

IPL photofacial light is soaked up by the hemoglobin (red blood cells) and melanin (pigmentation) in the skin, intentionally damaging these areas. The damaged melanin breaks up and is absorbed by the skin, decreasing its appearance on the skin’s surface. The damaged hemoglobin stimulates blood flow, causing the melanin to be absorbed more efficiently.
